I had a bit of a weird purchase today. One of my best friends is going to a festival and has decided in her infinite wisdom to go as the strange and rather scary salad fingers. With a penchant for strange ideas I said I would give her a hand. So today I bought a mannequin head on which I can prepare some bald caps in preparation for our Saturday makeup session. I’ve decided to call her Audrey. Now all I need is a bucket load of green aqua colour and we are sorted. Watch this space.
Fran bought me one of these the other day and I can’t get enough of them now! They are super cheap and seem pretty durable. I’m using the bigger one for my personal makeup brushes whilst I’m travelling around and the smaller one for hair pins and bobbles as I’m forever losing them.
They’re perfect for our make-up kits too so if you’re storage geeks like us you’ll love them.

I very recently did a really fun photoshoot with a singer who needed some press shots! The brief was varied but mostly focussed on a vintage pinup style and that called for one of my favourite hairstyles – victory rolls! I started by rollering the hair upwards at the front and using hotsticks in the back of the hair to get a lovely wave. I then created three victory rolls at the front and left the rest down, leaving it gorgeous and wavy. Then it was time to backcomb the whole head for a mad rock chick look! What do you think??
Summer is back, maybe only for a few days but isn’t it nice?! The rays inspired me to write this post about some of my favourite sunscreens. I took this photo whilst on holiday in Spain earlier this year.
Remember, it’s really important to protect your skin from the harmful rays to minimise your risk of developing skin cancer. If we protect our skin from a young age it can stop premature ageing.
Green People SPF 15 Sun Lotion is a nice non sticky suncream that doesn’t irritate your skin as it has no fragrance. My skin can get quite sensitive in the sun so this is a good option for anyone with sensitive skin.
La Roche Posay SPF 50 Tinted Fluid is a tinted lotion with high protection. This is great as it doubles up as a tinted moisturiser and instantly absorbs into the skin. It’s a fluid texture so it’s not heavy on your skin and you can wear make-up over the top. They also do a non tinted version.
Lancaster Sport SPF 30 Stick is good to use on smaller areas where we sometimes forget to apply sunscreen – lips, ears, back of neck. It’s a cream and a stick so a good multipurpose product.
Christina’s boyfriend booked her a personal make-up lesson as a surprise birthday present after she’d dropped a few hints!
Make-up lessons are a great way to find out about new products and try different techniques without feeling pressured in a shop environment. As a make-up artist, I use lots of different brands so we’re not stuck using one brand.
We had a fun two hours talking about what she currently uses, what she’d like to learn and we did a couple of make-up looks. We started off by going through her makeup bag (love this part!) and looking at what new products we could introduce.
I showed Christina how to do a natural daytime look that she could do quickly in the morning and wear to the office and how to adapt it for evening.
I recommended some Benefit cream shadows as they’re so easy to apply and here are some of the other products that we used in the session:-

This is a beautiful coral lipstick for summer. Guerlain’s Shine Automatique (shade 240) is a sheer coral pink with warm undertones – it’s very creamy and lovely to wear. With most lippy’s you’ll need to reapply but this is really long lasting. It’s perfect if you suffer from dry lips as it keeps your lips moisturised as well as being a flirty, young, fresh colour. Retailing at £24.50.
