The Woes of Mascara

Taking your makeup off is pretty arduous at the best of times, especially heavy eye makeup and mascara. Our eye area is so delicate that the daily process of rubbing and washing our eyes can be a literal pain.

One thing you can do (which I have always done over the years and swear by it) is to take your mascara off first before anything else. Take your thumb and forefinger, wet them slightly with water and delicately massage your lashes between your fingers. Then just rinse your fingers under the water and keep going until 90 percent of the mascara has gone. You may look like a sad panda at this stage but your mascara will have loosened with the warm water and you don’t have to spend the next ten minutes rubbing your eyes with a cotton pad or a facewipe (gasp!). Plus you will more likely get rid of ALL your mascara this way. Then just simply continue with your cleansing routine.

Waterproof mascara requires something a little different – for this you’ll need an oil based remover like Bobbi Brown’s Instant Long-wear Makeup remover. Shake to mix the liquids and use some soft cotton wool. To get rid of any excess mascara in the base of your lashes, soak a cotton bud in your remover and gently brush along the lashline. Bobbi Brown is now doing this remover in travel sizes which means it doesn’t have to break the bank if you want to try it out. Plus they fit perfectly into your makeup bag which is delightful.
