Back to Basics: Make-up for Glasses Wearers

Hi everyone, Happy New Year!

We have a new video up on our channel, something a bit different this time. The lovely Danielle from the fashion and beauty blog, Fashionista Barbie agreed to come and do a video with us and we decided to do a make-up look for glasses wearers.

I loved the colours I used on Danielle as they complimented her skin tone nicely, you’ll find a full product list below the video. I’ll be doing more make-up looks for glasses wearers so watch this space.

If you’re a glasses wearer, do you struggle with eye make-up? Or are there any tips and tricks you’d like to share with us?

The Woes of Mascara

Taking your makeup off is pretty arduous at the best of times, especially heavy eye makeup and mascara. Our eye area is so delicate that the daily process of rubbing and washing our eyes can be a literal pain.

One thing you can do (which I have always done over the years and swear by it) is to take your mascara off first before anything else. Take your thumb and forefinger, wet them slightly with water and delicately massage your lashes between your fingers. Then just rinse your fingers under the water and keep going until 90 percent of the mascara has gone. You may look like a sad panda at this stage but your mascara will have loosened with the warm water and you don’t have to spend the next ten minutes rubbing your eyes with a cotton pad or a facewipe (gasp!). Plus you will more likely get rid of ALL your mascara this way. Then just simply continue with your cleansing routine.

Waterproof mascara requires something a little different – for this you’ll need an oil based remover like Bobbi Brown’s Instant Long-wear Makeup remover. Shake to mix the liquids and use some soft cotton wool. To get rid of any excess mascara in the base of your lashes, soak a cotton bud in your remover and gently brush along the lashline. Bobbi Brown is now doing this remover in travel sizes which means it doesn’t have to break the bank if you want to try it out. Plus they fit perfectly into your makeup bag which is delightful. Gorgeous Golden Eyes – Product List

Here’s the list of products Fran used on Jess in our latest video.

Mandy Gold makeup palette from PAM – this is great to have in your make-up kit especially if you work on set as it’s so quick and easy to work with.

Concealer/Lip/Cheek Palette from PAM – another great item to have in your kit as it’s a multi-purpose product.

MAC Signed Sealed eyeshadow – discontinued (sorry!) but Shadowy Lady is similar but not as dark. When you’re working on darker skin tones, you can use darker eyeshadow colours for a natural look.

MAC Tempting eyeshadow. Fran chose this pretty golden toned eyeshadow to add a bit of glamour to Jess’ makeup look. I love this shadow so much as it’s really flattering on any eye colour!

NARS Corcovado Soft Touch Shadow Pencil – Fran used this as a highlighter in the inner corner of her eyes. With darker skin tones you can use more golden shades to highlight rather than silver shades.

Avon Supershock Gel Eyeliner – we absolutely love these pencils as they’re so easy to blend and have great pigment to them. This is ‘Khaki’ a shade that suits pretty much all skin tones and eye colours.

Giorgio Armani Blushing Fabric 01 – we have never come across a blusher like this! The texture is unique, it feels really silky when you apply on the skin and blends very well. We recommend this to anyone who doesn’t like powder blusher and can’t get on with cream blushers.

Sleek Pumpkin Blusher Palette – Sleek make great products for darker skin tones and the prices are reasonable too! Fran used a little powder blusher over the top of the Armani one just to give a bit more oomf.

Guerlain Shine Automatique 263 – these lipsticks by Guerlain are really moisturising and give a nice amount of colour to the lips. I actually have some of these in my own makeup bag and they don’t dry my lips out like MAC lipsticks do.

So there you have it, I hope you found this useful and as always, if you have any beauty related questions, you can always tweet, facebook or instagram us! L x

New Clinique Chubby Sticks For Eyes

Fran and I popped to an event last week at Clinique HQ to preview the latest addition to the immensely popular ‘Chubby Stick’ range. This time it’s chubbies for eyes!

If you haven’t heard about the ‘Chubby Stick’ range, this is what you need to know:

– easy to apply
– soft texture
– aesthetically pleasing
– wearable shades

So, what’s not to love, right?! I road tested ‘Fuller Fudge’ * (a beautiful bronze colour, see swatch below) and this is my verdict.

They are quick and easy to apply due to the crayon-like appearance and I just used my finger to blend into the crease. I applied two layers as I wanted to build up the colour and it blended really well, which is a must for a cream shadow.

It lasted all day and it didn’t crease at all, hooray!

We’re already big fans and we think you will be too.

They’ll be available to buy from 15th February, a perfect Valentine’s present, to yourself.
